Ilhan Omar Tweeted To Cancel Student Loan Debt And It Totally Backfired

While some borrowers shared their student loan debt stories, many Twitter users were quick to dismiss the congresswoman with negative responses for promoting student loan debt cancellation - and did so in a flurry.

“It all amounts to the same thing. Stealing from responsible people, to pay off the debts of people who made bad decisions.”“Will I receive a tax credit for the money I have already paid responsibly repaying my student debt?”

Just to be fair, be sure to reimburse every American that’s had a student loan in the past.

How about starting with reasonable interest rates When my bank pays me less than 1% interest on money but we borrow school loans at 6 and 7% there is a problem.

It’s so ironic the generation that said nothing when a Republican forgave the millions in debts automakers and big banks accrued (the debts that put us in the Great Recession) are triggered and butthurt when a Democrat says we should forgive the debts of everyday Americans.

Cuz those should be banks who provide that gift not government, those are in most interest in another loans to give and also have most money for that. Anyway i still think that earning money on lending money is a huge mistake. Banks should earn on keeping money safe and trade

That’s it? I don’t think the word “backfired” is true here. Do people have differing opinions about student loan debt payback? Sure. But “backfired”? I don’t think so. And I bet a lot of people complaining about it aren’t part of the generation crushed by it.

Rightfully so. I took out loans for undergrad, grad & law degree. I also took out Plus loans for my children. I am paying back the $262,000 one month at a time. My promise to pay them back means something. Does it suck? Yup it sure does, but nothing comes for free.

Because she only represents this small portion of america, always remember that.
