A Coalition of Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) is at the forefront of the push for debts cancellation for Nigeria and other poor nations.

The coalition is armed with a presentation to be submitted to G20 finance ministers at their meeting billed for Wednesday, it was learnt on Tuesday.

The coalition spoke of the need for the G20 countries “to heed the warnings – a ‘third wave’ of the coronavirus crisis could result in a catastrophic loss of life in poorer countries in the Global South and push half a billion more people into poverty.”The coalition said in statement: “The window to act is closing quickly. But this week, the G20 finance ministers, the IMF and the World Bank can offer an instant lifeline – cancel all external debt payments for 2020.
