THE agency that oversees internet addresses yesterday rejected a controversial bid to let a private equity firm control the .org online neighbourhood known as a haven for non-profit groups. Ethos Capital made a billion-dollar deal last year to buy the Public Interest Registry from the Internet Society. PIR is the registry for website addresses ending in .org.
