Australia needs more regard for its national interest and less pretending “that we have a fantastic relationship with China” according to ASPI_org's Peter Jennings

Australia needs more regard for its national interest and less pretending “that we have a fantastic relationship with China” according to Executive Director of the Australian Strategic Policy Institute Peter Jennings. “For too long as a country we’ve been prepared to look the other way when Chinese bad behaviour has been damaging our strategic interest,” he said.

Mr Jennings said it is now becoming clear to governments in Australia that the disregard for national interest “in the name of making money” is beginning to do “real damage to our national security”. “China has become more authoritarian, more Leninist, more assertive”. He told Sky News host Peta Credlin within Australia there needs to be an understanding when dealing with Chinese companies “ultimately you’re dealing with the Chinese Communist Party”.

ASPI_org Get a new think tank! News Corp & has pushed damn hard to sabotage the Australian economy & they have presented the United States, with two new Chinese export contracts, in beef and barley exports.

ASPI_org Australian politicians fxxk up, just admit it.

ASPI_org China weaponizes trade. This is not a trading partner which serves our long term interests. China thinks Chinese residents in foreign countries are its policy tools. In fact, Nisei were critical to America's intel success in WWII.

ASPI_org Such one-side fantasy pretending by these crafty pollies is designed to insatiably profit from gigantic China markets and billions of consumers, meanwhile to continue their politically motivated votes-wooing strategy through populist’s tricks and ideological hostility to China.

ASPI_org With western economies now facing ruin as as a result of Corona virus we will see greatly increased activity by China in the South China Sea & Pacific. We will increasingly see manufactured conflicts, particularly over Taiwan. What will the West do?

ASPI_org How detached from reality can you be? You look the other to the US arming f***ing jihadists & waging wars based on total lies. And then you think joining the US on a warpath with China & Russia is good for our national security?! Explain yourself Peter Jennings.

ASPI_org Well said

ASPI_org We have turned a blind eye to their malign behaviour for way too long and justifying it for money and economic reasons just doesn’t cut it

markc01 ASPI_org Hmm... Kinda late in the game for these 'revelations/apifanys'.. anyone whose honest, travelled & worked in the South Pacific realises the sham of our Govt & NGO programs. A lotta of money spent yet no evidence of outcomes. Usual response? 'The locals are corrupt & incapable' B.S

ASPI_org India is already working with other countries (the ones that don't whinge, argue and are asleep at the wheel) to fill the void China is creating for itself.

ASPI_org Basically, Australia needs to get back to making its own stuff. Keating and Kelty wrecked Australian manufacturing, if business need's tariff support to be viable they should get it. Overseas countries have no issues using tariffs against us.

ASPI_org What’s Australian national interests? I don’t know any apart from having a good relationship with China, Australia’s by far biggest export-import partner.

ASPI_org Time to terminate the Darwin port lease and stop property purchases unless a citizen for 5 years. auspol
