Australia is poised to appeal a decision by China to impose 80 per cent tariffs on barley producers.

China accused Australian producers of dumping barley into its market below value – an accusation Australia vehemently denies. Australia’s Trade Minister Simon Birmingham issued a statement saying “Australia is deeply disappointed with China’s decision” and “we reject the basis of this decision and will be assessing the details of the findings while we consider next steps”.

Meanwhile, China has offered its conditional support for an independent inquiry into the origins of COVID-19, insisting the review should only get underway once the pandemic was over. Chinese President Xi Jinping pledged AU$3.1 billion to support the “comprehensive evaluation” of the pandemic and insisted China had “always had an open, transparent and responsible attitude".

Ye that will take 5 years and China are happy to wait. There needs to be a big fine to recover loses at the end of it or they will just do this whenever they want. We should boycott anything or person linked to the Chineese government.

Lucky we signed a free trade agreement with them 2 years ago

Take at least 18 months to get a hearing before the WTO

Sell the Barley to India. They need it now.

Tax them for house puchases in australia!!!

Amateurs running this country. Amateurs

Just don't sell them the barley. India will gladly take most of it.

Cut their Iron Ore

Thank the Morrison Government for all of this and the airlines.

FFS when will the farmers learn to do business with somebody else for crying out loud.

Australia, I was proud to see you stand tall against the bullying and coercion by Beijing, but you should retaliate. Its the only logic the CCP can comprehend. The next time they need your natural resources you should price them accordingly.

Why appeal? They will crawl their way back.

Right call. We stay diplomatic and don't sink to the same petulant behaviour and undiplomatic protocols. We're better than that, but as consumers we follow the ABC_challenge mycountryfirst

Put 80% tax on iron ore to China !

Then stop them taking our water and shipping it!!!!

Has anyone thought who the Chinese are going to buying there barley from now, the Americans of coarse our greatest allie supposedly

Appeal that’s the same as Beg? Yeah, that’ll show China we won’t be pushed around🤪

This would please to those nationalist for while ,and let it be ,everybody happy besides farmers maybe ,or maybe not ...

Appeal where, the WTO? Where the country lnp politicians share values and interests with, USA, has refused to appoint appellate judges so WTO arbitration system collapses, because the USA doesn't want to negotiate a system that includes China. auspol ausdef MasterchefAU

If the Australian government wanted it could do the same with Chinese imports. Australia has a way if it wants. My fears are that in reality this is all much of a game.

Ha, ha, ha! And learn that the World Trade Organisation is as corrupted as WHO? Here's the current chair of its Appellate Body. This will be fascinating to watch.

change crops to hemp

Good luck with that....and ..... China has agreed to support a review into the coronavirus pandemic led by the World Health Organisation, but not the independent investigation being pushed by Australia.

Let em starve then. When they run out of food -we can LAUGH at China for being Fuckwits.
