Western Australia is set to implement tougher restrictions on interstate travellers from midnight on Sunday after two new cases of the virus were reported in the state on Friday.

WA will now force anyone travelling from or through Victoria to go into hotel quarantine for 14 days at their own expense. WA Health Minister Roger Cook issued a stern warning to Western Australians against travelling interstate. “For those Western Australians thinking about going east, don’t go,” he said.

“For whatever reason you’re contemplating going east, it’s in the best interest of all Western Australians to stay here as we cannot guarantee you’ll be cleared for return immediately. “WA has the toughest border controls in the country and we’ll make it tougher if we need to.” The state’s borders have been closed since the beginning of April.
