He said international organisations were particularly necessary, especially when it came to the Communist Party of China. “We need all nations, including China, to abide by the rulings that have been made,” he said.
“Australia needs to defend our national interest, and as a middle power, that means ensuring that we abide by and call upon other countries to abide by international organisations.” Australian government ministers Marise Payne and Linda Reynolds will travel to the US this week to discuss national security with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Defence Secretary Mark Esper. Mr Albanese called on the ministers to “stress Australia’s national interests”.
