WASHINGTON - The U.S. Army’s head said on Tuesday that military leaders would only recommend sending troops to combat when it was in the national security interest or as a last resort, but declined to comment on President Donald Trump suggesting that leaders wanted to fight wars to keep weapon makers happy.

“Many of these leaders have sons and daughters that serve in the military, many of these leaders have sons and daughters who have gone to combat or may be in combat right now,” U.S. Army Chief of Staff General James McConville said during an event. “I can assure the American people that the senior leaders would only recommend sending our troops to combat when it is required in national security and in the last resort. We take this very, very seriously in how we make our recommendations,” he added.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A day after President Donald Trump accused the U.S. military brass of wanting to fight wars to keep weapons makers happy, the Army's top general said on Tuesday leaders of the armed forces would recommend sending troops into combat only

You mean the uncorroborated comments that you’re running with as fact?

I find it very hard to believe that the military industrial complex doesn’t influence military decisions that secure more weapons contranct. Businesses have sunk their roots deep in the decision making process within the last 40 years and we didn’t need Trump to tell us.

They need to come clean with the American people and admit that there is no Illegal Order that they will not follow. That it is not their job to decide legal vs illegal, and they will do as ordered no matter what. People think they have some kind of backbone that doesn't exist.

Amen. Truth be told the young troops are often the ones eager to fight and it’s the senior leaders who’ve seen their share of blood are loath to commit them to it without good cause. Trump saying otherwise demonstrates his lack of understanding of the military and war itself.

Be very careful what you say about your commander in chief otherwise you may be putting in your retirement papers a lot sooner than you were planning to. Have you forgotten about General McChrystal?

Well someone has to!

He has to defend the US military from its commander in Chief.

realDonaldTrump WhiteHouse GOPLeader SenateGOP MarkMeadows senatemajldr VP Trump We will never forget nor forgive your Unpatriotic Disgraceful Dishonorable comments about our HONORABLE FALLEN SOLDIERS and now demeaning the military leaders of the service members.

Reuters continues to mislead readers by propagating unsubstantiated rumors about Trump.

Ever hear of Eisenhower and the Military Industrial Complex speech in which he warned of the overreach of the ..... military? Sounds like Trump is sounding the same warning -- to his credit- but which the leftwing media ignores

TrumpMeltDown Trump is so despair, he is attacking everyone.

If that is true, why all the conflicts prior to a Trump administration?
