WELLINGTON - Jacinda Ardern’s ruling Labour Party said it would raise taxes for top income earners if it is returned to power in the polls next month, as the government looks to pay off debt accumulated due to its COVID-19 pandemic response.
Ardern’s Labour Party, comfortably ahead in the election contest according to opinion polls, said it plans a new higher tax rate of 39% for people earning over NZ$180,000 , which would only affect 2% of New Zealanders. But it still puts New Zealand at the bottom third of income tax rates within OECD countries, and Robertson said the tax is lower than neighbouring Australia which has a tax rate of 47% for income above A$180,000, including a 2% Medicare levy.Ardern, who leads a centre-left coalition government, is riding a wave of popularity after successfully limiting the spread of COVID-19, and is predicted to win a second term in the Oct. 17 election.
New Zealander ‘ s don’t rock the boat much . There prime minister was able to get significant gun control laws within a few weeks. Wouldn’t fly in USA. We have party battles. Contention. They don’t fight government like we do in America
Rongi pai. Long overdue.
Ma allora qualcuno di sinistra nel mondo c'è ancora
See what normal nations do? Why can't Republicans get that? Earn more pay more, it's all about fair share, just like our union dues. The more you make, the higher your dues up to a cap. Makes sense to me!
Abolish government
Make NZ Great Again
Hope they move their jobs and money to the USA then , their loss our gain
I hope they dont win.
