The Restaurants Association of South Africa says the debt the industry suffered will not be paid back anytime soon.

JOHANNESBURG - The Restaurants Association of South Africa says the move to lockdown Alert Level 1 has been long-awaited.

The association's CEO, Wendy Alberts, says the debt the industry suffered will not be paid back anytime soon."We are not out the dark yet, we are never going to make up the losses over the last six months, and we are certainly trying hard to look at a debt amnesty programme," said Alberts.President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that South Africa is moving to Level 1 of the lockdown.

Cabinet decided on Wednesday that the country should move to alert Level 1 as of midnight on Sunday, 20 September 2020. "This move recognises that levels of infection are relatively low and that there is sufficient capacity in our health system to manage the current need," Ramaphosa said.
