Australian workers, mainly women, suffer from perverse tax disincentives when they pay for childcare. For many they're not just copping a higher rate of tax than our highest-paid corporate titans, they're paying to go to work.

. Experts fear measures announced in the Budget won't shift the dial.

"Together, we can create lasting change. And, in doing so, we must not settle for what is good enough," she wrote. "We must have the ambition to aim for what is best."But the lack of support for women has infuriated Equity Economics lead economist Angela Jackson. "We came in knowing that the economic recession caused by COVID had disproportionally impacted women and we expected the Government would respond with jobs and with a huge investment in childcare," Ms Jackson added. Instead, direct support for industry sectors went to parts of the economy – such as construction –

Australia funds childcare at a rate less than half a per cent of our gross domestic product . That's much less than similar countries. The United Kingdom spends 1.1 per cent of the value of what it produces on childcare, New Zealand 0.8 per cent. Before we became such a litigious society, childcare WAS cheaper.

Pay for your own child care!!!!

Why does it cost more for childcare below the age of five? Aren’t child care workers really educators? Come on!

If you can’t bloody afford children don’t have them... If you have children... how about staying at home and looking after them? Oh wait - we have to pay for our over priced shit houses which we can’t afford..! People are so stupid!

So no mention that childcare costs so much because of the profiteers like Dutton?

$180,000 is more than twice the average wage. Save your tears for people who aren’t on high incomes!

Your choices of accommodation, employment and child bearing are yours. I'd be happy to contribute more, the second I get breaks on choices I would like to make. We can't always have everything we desire at once 🤷‍♂️ .

Drop all the CCB and FTB incentives from the government and make child care tax fees deductible.

Both parents’ incomes need to be taken into account. So the “second earner” is not in fact spending all her income on childcare. She and her partner’s combined incomes are paying.

They live in Lismore- where the mortgage is obviously less than childcare.

Would a live-in nanny actually be cheaper?

If you decide to have kids, this goes with it.

It runs for maximum five years per kid though where mortgage normally last for thirty
