Senator Sherwin “Win” Gatchalian asked the National Bureau of Investigation on Thursday to investigate the fraudulent use of his credit card by hackers for food purchases amounting to P1 million.
De Guzman said the case will be investigated by the NBI’s Cybercrime Division and Special Action Unit .De Guzman said syndicates have been taking advantage of the rise in online transactions due to government restrictions over public movement as part of measures to contain the spread of the coronavirus disease .
He said he decided to seek an NBI investigation after receiving numerous reports from victims of similar credit card frauds. Gatchalian said the suspects managed to order around P1 million items, mostly alcoholic drinks, and have them delivered to several places using the online delivery service Food Panda.
