Rishi Sunak set to extend furlough and Universal Credit support - but tax hikes are coming too

Slice two is a package of tax hikes to start raising billions to close the UK’s budget deficit, which will hit £400billion by April.

Experts say this budget deficit needs to be reduced by £30billion to £40billion to stabilise borrowing and prevent debt from rising.Raising capital gains will target the rich, such as second-home owners. Paul Johnson, head of the Institute for Fiscal Studies, previously warned how families will be hit by tax rises to pay for the Covid-shaped hole in the accounts.

The Institute for Fiscal Studies has said: “Even if the Government was comfortable with stabilising debt at 100% of national income — its highest level since 1960 — it would still need a fiscal tightening worth 2.1% of national income, or £43billion.”Mr Sunak is under pressure to keep the freeze on fuel duty rises, while the Chancellor is said to be

If he won’t alter the furlough dates no one who didn’t get any help should have to pay his taxes

Hope there is a level up for legacybenefits to match the £20.00 UC. but I don't think so 😷😟

As usual it’s those lucky enough to still be working who pay😡 In my 20 house cul-de-sac 3 furloughed families have had extensions built, 2 new driveways & they’re the ones booking holidays etc whilst those still working see pay frozen, bills, taxes going up & little spare cash😡

Rishi is the sane one.

Hope it's vat he increase! Then everyone has to pay and not the workers paying for the jobless scroates

Too much socialism is not good for health, not good for tax payers health.!

Just remember when you're paying your extra tax for those lazy civil servants collecting furlough, sat on their fat arse at home, they're better than you.
