Biden aims to restore relations with EU leaders after four years of tension under former president Donald Trump.
After gaining renewed support with leaders at the G7 and NATO summits, White House officials told the Associated Press they are confident Biden is building more goodwill with Europe ahead of meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin Wednesday. "All leaders agreed that in an age of global competition Europe and North America must stand strong together in NATO, to defend our values and our interests, especially at a time when authoritarian regimes, like Russia and China, challenge the rules-based international order," NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said at the summit.
The 17-year-long dispute over government support for Boeing and Airbus came to a head when former president Donald Trump issued $7.5 billion in tariffs on European products. The EU responded with their own tariffs on the United States."Today's announcement resolves a longstanding trade irritant in the U.S.-Europe relationship," U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai told the Associated Press.
