Senate Democrats reached a deal with Republicans to defer a showdown over the debt ceiling until December, averting a possible government default

WASHINGTON—Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said that Democrats and Republicans hadto extend the debt ceiling through early December and that the Senate could pass the measure as soon as later Thursday, putting off a possible government default for several months.

“It’s our hope that we can get this done as soon as today,” said the New York Democrat in a brief statement on the Senate floor.

Until we do this partisan bullshit all over again in December…

perpetuating myth that refusal to raise debt ceiling would result in default. A Democrat scare hoax. Propaganda.

No news, every year they go through this.

US debt circus. Business as usual. Nothing new.

Well, sure hope that they deal with the super conductor in tx & innocent boys dieing, & Trajecting ppl, after turning em into babies issue. I just had to hear & feel babies get their heads bashed in the Apt above me. SURREAL but 100% true& I'm sick of it

The big Republican LIE: Tax cuts on the rich will trickle down. 40+ years of Republican tax cuts have caused a wealth increase of 8.7% among the top 1% and 8.7% loss among the 99%. 8.7% = $11.26 Trillion. Biden wants $3.5 Trillion for the 99%. Tax the 1%. Source: Federal Rsv.

For two months, then we repeat this whole charade all over again. That isn’t the “art of negotiating”, btw…

Schumer was told 2 months ago that Reps would not vote for raising the debt ceiling and the Dems needed to use Senate procedure to get it through. The procedures take a few months to do. Now Reps extend 2 months for the Dems to try to get their act together and pass the bill.

One difficulty is gone, but another one is coming.
