THemingford UC is an absolute disgrace at £234per month!! No fund for emergencys, Nothing? Most would find it difficult to make that last a week & being paid monthly( cheaper!) it leaves many with at the very least over 10 days with literally nothing!!!

Utter leftish rubbish.

. How do you define class? It doesn’t have a clear definition. It’s normally self-assigned by people. And they are the ones who complain about the consequences then. Class only exists in people’s minds!

All PAYE have to fall in line with paying taxes without great deal of exemption. People with base in tax shelter and clever lawyers and accountants can decide which law to obey. Government and public not interested in writers with money issues.

Why should the government pay for people to sit at home and write a book? Who writes these ridiculous articles!

Nonesense

Anyone who is claiming benefits while actually being self employed with deferred income, such as by writing a book, is really cheating the system IMO.

It’s only Tuesday, but I suspect I’m going to struggle to find a more hand-wringing Guardianista article all week.

Haven’t you heard that everyone hates the working class? Nobody wants to hear their opinion, they must keep their mouths shut and pay their taxes

Since when did the working-class have time to write.

For goodness sake, this fear mongering is going a little far now dont you think? What next, 'Universal Credit entirely responsible for Brexit, Climate Change and that headache you had last week'.

Perhaps they will need to get a proper job then. Although not sure how many “working class” writers there actually are. Maybe if the headline said “non-working class” the article would make more sense

DWP has 'fortress mentality' on universal credit, MPs sayParliamentary committee says department is unresponsive to difficulties people are facing 'Deep cuts announced by George Osborne in 2015 mean that, for many people, it will be significantly less generous than the benefits it replaces.' Less generous? That's incredibly naively phrased - it's not like previously you got your giro & booked a holiday. Bit of thought pls New recipients of UC can apply for an advance before the first payment. Those 'job-seeking' shouldn't be relying on benefits long-term as it's only designed for a temporary measure. A monthly payment is no different to a work salary. It should be managed accordingly.

Universal credit forcing families to wait months for help to pay childcare bills, MPs warn'If the government had set out to design a system to make it harder for parents to get into work, it could hardly have done better' This is why this image makes sense. Universal credit childcare is hurting the poorest, MPs warnRequirement for parents to pay costs upfront, and then claim them back, is a burden on the poor, says report The problem is many MPs' have inherited wealth or a gifted upbringing and are well out touch with reality. so their ideas & policies fail to reflect the needs of the poorer end of society.
