Scott Morrison’s move to scrap a $90 billion submarine deal may have “aggrieved the French political class” but it was done in Australia’s national interests, the Assistant Defence Minister said.

Mr Morrison has faced a media storm in recent days after French President Emmanuel Macron accused him of lying about the state of Australia’s $90 billion submarine deal with France.

“Scott Morrison is serving our national interest; he’s made a tough decision not to proceed with the Attack-Class submarines that of course aggrieved the French political class,” Mr Hastie told Sky News Australia. Mr Hastie said his tour of the Astute-Class submarine revealed that Australia needed to develop a critical education and research industry around the new nuclear technology.

“And our education sector is a critical part of getting our country ready for nuclear submarines as part of AUKUS.”

Greenpeace NZ Boat ? Who told lies? Long memory

He fucking badly bungled a diplomatic challenge before he even recognised that challenge. Caught with his arrogance and hubris around his ankles. None of that is in Australia's national interest.

So an 18 month process to understand the new cost, production and specs. No idea on lost jobs and delivery date which is expected to be blown out to 2040. Can you explain how this is in our best interests when we don't know most of the necessary details.

Cheese eating surrender monkeys throwing tantrums because some colonials knew they were being taken for a ride. The French never change.
