South Australia's Deputy Premier Vickie Chapman has launched a defamation threat in a bid to halt a parliamentary inquiry examining whether she has a conflict of interest

South Australia's Deputy Premier, Vickie Chapman, has threatened to sue an opponent for defamation in a bid to halt a parliamentary investigation into whether she has a conflict of interest.Ms Chapman's decision to block a timber port on KI is the subject of a parliamentary inquiry into whether she had a conflict of interest.

"It is well past time for the matter to be removed from this Kangaroo court to a competent court," Ms Chapman said in a statement. The statement intimated Ms Chapman was seeking to use the threat against Mr Koutsantonis to try and stay the inquiry's findings, which are due to be delivered to parliament next Thursday.Earlier this year, Ms Chapman adopted a different approach — arguing that a parliamentary inquiry into explosive claims by former Labor MP Annabel Digance should proceed, even after Ms Digance was charged by police with blackmail.Mr Koutsantonis indicated he would seek to defend his statements.

Ministerial adviser Oliver Luckhurst-Smith told the committee he had emailed the Crown Solicitor's office, asking for a document to be prepared that would allow Ms Chapman to delegate her decision to another minister.

Funny 🤔 it reads that she’s suing for defamation for tweets saying she misled Parliament. How does that equate to stopping an inquiry? How about stick to reporting facts because your comprehension skills are very poor.

Shit and I was hoping that the opposition were straight up honest, my bad. 🤔🤣 Who am I going to vote for now? Not an honest politician in sight in either party. Boy some housekeeping really needs to be done to get the voters trust again.

Either the laws surrounding defamation or the laws surrounding government enquiries need to change! How is she not guilty of impeding a governmental inquiry?

Regardless of the merits or otherwise of the port, vickie Chapman clearly doesn't understand the meaning of the phrase 'conflict of interest'.

Seems to be working for the rightists. Claim victimhood and sue. 'I am the victim' ......spare me.

What is it with the Liberals…they’re all taking to suing. They need reminding that they are doing work on behalf of citizens who pay them a wage, who require honesty and integrity. Suing implies they’ve done something wrong they don’t want to be accountable for.

Classic dictator mentality.

Maybe if a few of them weren’t so bad that they’re being criticised by their employers (the taxpayers), they wouldn’t need to threaten to sue for defamation. More unpleasant American culture creeping in.

nobody wanted the damn port!! it was a sham! where it was going to be built is a really nice place

Massive self inflicted own goal.

Another sign of cutting down 'Tall Poppies'

Shonky, everywhere you look

How does any work get done by the LNP when all they seem to do is sue for defamation?

She must be a Liberal.
