“We’re a net commodity exporter, so we benefit from higher prices in terms of our trade flows,” she says. Unfortunately, higher national income does not necessarily protect consumers from elevated prices unless the government passes the benefits through tax cuts. “We get impacted the most by what’s happening on the global commodities markets,” expecting higher energy and food prices.
“They’ve got a lot of scope to cut interest rates, much more than other central banks, and they’re not in a hurry to increase interest rates because they haven’t had as much inflation as in advanced economies,” she says.
