It’s unfortunate the Jan. 6 committee has to hire a writer to make the narrative more...

The Republican National Committee also voted to censure Reps. Liz Cheney of Wyoming and Adam Kinzinger of Illinois. They had the effrontery to sit on the committee investigating the real crime.

If representatives feel the need to persuade the public, there is good reason for it. A Washington Post-University of Maryland poll, conducted earlier this year, found 36 percent of Republicans say the protesters were “mostly peaceful.” How do you convince an inconvincible person? In an effort to do just that, the committee has interviewed more than 475 witnesses and issued more than 100 subpoenas, according to the New York Times. A former top lawyer for the House calls it “the mother of all investigations.” Whoever writes the “narrative” faces a hefty challenge.

We wonder what impact the investigation will have — even though it should be momentous. The narrative could be as compelling as a spy thriller, but it may never be enough in a world of intense political division and in which conspiracy theories abound. The committee has not decided if it will make criminal referrals to the Justice Department, but we must remember that, whatever damage the rioters inflicted on the Capitol and the people working in it, the real victim was the Constitution. They sought to leave it in tatters, and if this heinous act is minimized, we will feel the impact for decades. That’s compelling, right?

Gap in Trump call logs on Jan. 6 ‘suspiciously tailored,’ Raskin saysRep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) said a gap of more than seven hours in official White House call logs on the day of the Jan. 6 insurrection was of 'intense interest' to the House select committee investigating the insurrection. This has been debunked already. Of course, WAPO has never cared about the truth.
