If you stand in front of Old Parliament House in Canberra, looking across Lake Burley Griffin, you’ll see that there’s an unobtrusive yet serious-looking office building on each flank.
Labor, he tells us, can’t manage money. It’s weak on national security, he claims in increasingly shrill tones, and even goes so far as to accuse Labor’s leaders of treachery, of being “on China’s side”. One was confirmed a little over three weeks ago in the federal budget. The other was confirmed in Beijing and Honiara.
Let’s be plain. When Morrison and Frydenberg claim that Labor “can’t manage money”, they are being shamelessly hypocritical. Their budget papers project that the debt will continue to rise to peak at 44.9 per cent in two years’ time. Close to twice as bad as the worst performance by a Labor government in the last half-century.James Brickwood
Debt will matter even in some rich countries. Especially in a country with Australia’s distinct features. One, Australia confronts a great power that has declared itself hostile with trade boycotts, a political freeze and 14 demands on Australia’s sovereign rights.
ausool Australians are sick and tired of middle aged men who wear suits and ties running the show. Australians want true ethnic and gender diversity in parliament. Neither Morrison or Albanese cut it for fine, decent Australians.
It’s the economy, stupid. Everything hinges on a strong and growing economy. And I mean EVERYTHING. Labor have never grasped the importance of the economy, the importance of business and the importance of stability for investment.
The fact is that Albanese has chosen a better educated, work experienced, articulate and intelligent front bench than the LNP has had during this past 3 years at least. THEIR best minds left with Turnbull, they knew what Morrison's shortcomings were prior to his leadership.
SallyRMelb The answer to the question of whether Labor would do better can be summarised in just two things: ICAC and Aged Care. Everything else is a bonus. auspol
Doesn’t take any imagination to recall the Rudd/Gillard/Rudd years. Much worse.
sorry jury not out on Labor. they can only do better than scomo
This is right on point, especially regarding the LNP's very dubious economic management. I wish more journos would provide actual analysis instead of just breathlessly repeating every announcement that comes out of the PMO. auspol
