Liberal candidate for Warringah Katherine Deves insists she’s not transphobic, citing her support for same-sex marriage and attendance at Mardi Gras during the 1990s.

“This isn’t this isn’t about that, this argument. It is about women and girls ... back in the early 90s. I was going to Mardi Gras, you know, I voted for same-sex marriage. I don’t have an issue with that,” Deves said. “The amount of people tapping me on the shoulder and saying keep going the messages of support from within Warringah and all over Australia ... I am feeling very confident.”

“Twitter is not a place where you should be prosecuting difficult arguments. So, I think we need to ... move on from that.”
