Scott Morrison has rejected assertions he politicised the AUKUS security pact by informing Labor only a day before it was announced, while at the same time suggesting the opposition could not be trusted with the information | LisaVisentin

4½ months before the AUKUS announcement on September 16, senior members of the Biden administration insisted it would only consider pursuing the project if there was solid support from both major Australian political parties.Credit:Campaigning in the marginal Queensland seat of Blair on Monday, the prime minister was asked whether he had misrepresented to the United States the bipartisan nature of the AUKUS agreement.

“I mean, seriously, this was one of the most secure and highly confidential agreements the Australian government had entered into since ANZUS. “This was not something that I was going to be loose with and I wasn’t loose with it. When the opposition needed to be informed, then they were – just as other members of the government were informed at that time.”
