‘Everybody knew’: Carra says he made no secret of his financial dealings on Inglewood property yyc yyccc

Carra confirmed he made the $300,000 down payment on the property to a family friend, Brian Kernick. The property was purchased by Kernick’s company, Kernick Enterprises Ltd.Article content“It was a classic Calgary handshake deal among close friends,” said the Ward 9 councillor.

When asked if he had ever done another deal in which a large amount of money had been exchanged without paperwork, Kernick said, “No, generally not.”“Everybody knew it,” he said, “Everybody. Councillors, neighbours, everybody was told. Everybody knew about it. I think there was some paperwork he didn’t fill out properly and maybe specify it. But it wasn’t like it was a secret.”Article content

“His being so open about his involvement and all the rest of it, I really think hurt us and how long it took to get approved,” said Kernick. “I feel I took a financial hit in a big way, sitting on this forever, because people were against the project.”Article content That promissory note is mentioned in the integrity commissioner’s report as having been filed on Jan. 12, 2021. The report notes Carra did not update his council financial disclosure paperwork to reflect his interest in 66 New Street until Nov. 10, 2021.

“Seems like they’re making a mountain out of a molehill. Because, I mean, if something shady was going on, he would have made money on this thing” - says the guy who made money on this thing 🥴

An ethics complaint made in 2016 w/regards removing the AVPA restrictions to benefit that land (dozens of properties were subdivided during that time but 66 fell into an NEF contour that disallowed subdivision so had to change the AVPA)He claimed he was cleared of pecuniary int.

There’s always a paper trail. If they didn’t create agreements, they should volunteer their bank statements to show the public the payment from gccarra to BrianKernick. If those records don’t exist; that’s a bribe. It means pnote was writing in exchange for favours.

This is a bribe in broad daylight. Who’s going to call the RCMP? I will.

After 11 years on council you’d think the smartest guy in the room would know the rules. Carra’s obsession with his pet projects & his misguided arrogance leads him to believe that he is above the rules. A thorough investigation is warranted yyccc

Calgary taxpayers would like to know what the city team of lawyers/planners costed to defend the property appeal at the Municipal board for Carra? 3 day appeal +300+/- page document submitted for a single property. Do they do that for any other person? Ever? Anyone know? taxes ⬆️

Btw his houses had 3 car garages (size of 3 even if he called a stall ‘bike storage’ 😂)City allowed him to build right on the property line in the front of the property. Zero property lines coming to your hood soon. Row houses for all. Who would invest in inner city?No security.

So claims ‘everybody knew’ then why were property taxes not paid for 2 years? Not allowed to run for council with outstanding property taxes. Did he own the land or not? Why does a Councilor not pay his property taxes? This article makes it clear a real investigation is required.

Calgary Herald should have fact checked as the ‘opposition’ to his development did not delay the approval BUT the AVPA had to be amended in order to subdivide the land - FACT -Herald. Carra also brought motion to floor to change AVPA. Is the disclosure just a joke to the city?

Weird. Carra promoted the heck out of the Avli to get buyers, saying it was top notch quality. Guess who built the Avli? His buddy on this deal too. The Avli is poor quality. So I guess when a councillor promotes a development they should disclose what they have to gain?

And what about all the public hearings he participated in on Inglewood applications?

There's a reason why elected officials must disclose a financial interest in business & property holdings. How many other 'classic Calgary handshake deals' with close friends have benefited gccarra? We need an independent investigation, he cannot be trusted. yyccc resignCarra

“...failed to legally disclose...” He had knowledge and had ample opportunity and time to right. Makes it illegal and punishable. It’s time to hold these elected politicos to a *higher standard* - right YYCTKW ? yyc yyccc RicMcIver ableg
