In a quintessentially Canadian moment captured by the Star in 1997, police officer Wayne Vanderlaan was called to safely escort a family of Canada geese off Highway 403.

Vanderlaan was working out of 11 Division in Peel when the call came in. “The OPP were tied up,” he says, “so they asked us to assist.” He and three other officers arrived on the scene, which was causing a major traffic tie-up. This wasn’t even the most unusual call of his career. “It was up there,” he admits, “but I spent 20 years as a police officer and then in criminal fraud enforcement as a special constable for the Securities Commission.”

This is what the Red Star is proud of... why are you receiving tax money again?

Honk honk.
