The pause is currently set to expire on August 31. People familiar with the Biden administration's plan told thethat the president is expected to announce an extension on the payment freeze that would last until January. Student loan payments were initially paused in the early days of the coronavirus pandemic during former President Donald Trump's administration. Biden has repeatedly extended the pause since starting his term in the White House.
