Priced-out buyers and homeowners crushed by rising mortgage costs are angry and hungry to lay blame for what happened to Canada’s housing market

Soaring home prices created seething resentments. Falling prices have made things worse.

The anger is justified. The first rule of being a Canadian adult is that you need to own a house, yet the cost of getting into the real estate market is in some cities insurmountable for people with middle-class incomes and no parental wealth to help with down payments. Those who battled their way into the market feel abused by interest-rate hikes that blow up their household finances.

It’s not just people shut out of housing who are angry with the Bank of Canada. The bank’s policy of raising rates to cool inflation has resulted in big increases in mortgage payments for some owners. They feel that if the bank had acted sooner, their burden would now be lighter. But the central bank’s job is to manage the entire economy, not just housing.

it's time for Maoist Land Reform

Tell Kenny that. If he keeps advertising how cheap Alberta is and they come snd they buy it won’t be cheap for long!

Damn, a real whodunnit, isn't it?

you’re right, no one is doing this, not landlords, not developers, not REITs, not people hoarding housing as investments, not corporations buying up housing stock all over the country, no no, housing prices have skyrocketed ✨BY MAGIC✨

I ain't paying to read this clickbait trash....who do they blame? Is it kids? Poor people? Foreigners?

They should blame themselves for taking gender studies and now can't afford a home

Maybe if developers were to start building regular sized moderate homes instead of the 3 story monstrosities they keep building, prices would come down.

Banks... wow... Hire a journalist - who issued the loans? Who drove the price up artificially? Banking Oligarchs. *obviously you need time to look the word 'journalist' up

Whomever is slowing the build up of supply is to blame

Instead of pretending there are no alternatives and no way such a situation could have been avoided, why not advocate for the unhoused? Stop beclowning yourselves with this bourgeois pablum. We already have a whole national news outlet dedicated to sucking off landlords.

Ban 4N & non-resident ownership. Ban Airbnb & like platforms. Cut immigration & 4N students. Ban REITs that aren't purpose built rental. Raise interest rates. Tax 4N capital used to purchase real estate at income tax rates. Do ANYTHING about 💰 laundering. Address toxic demand.

It’s government they should blame. Same over here. Sold of public housing . Now all holiday homes or rentals unaffordable to normal working class folk.

Yes

That’s because rich people who turned housing into an investment instead of a human right are hoarding it all and holding it for ransom.

the problem with the housing crisis is that it's pushing more people to homelessness, and people are struggling to pay for somewhere to live the solution is to build and provide public housing

That's because people want the issue solved. You can't solve the issue without identifying the cause(s).

Politicians are to blame. They have been dancing around the problem for almost 15 years. Homes are for living in raising families not for investment speculation as the mindset has been conditioned.

Worst policies of Labour Govt at Federal.

It is not rocket science to figure out.

There is no will on the part of the govt. to solve the promise. Even an election promise of banning foreign buyers was broken. With the loopholes JT afforded these buyers, he may as well have handed over the keys to the country to them.

Themselves

In that real class war (that which shall not be named) between those who have houses as investment assets, and those who just want affordable homes, where do you stand?
