‘We will pay their entire HECS debt’: Victoria’s major funding announcement

More than 10,000 budding nurses and midwives will have their university degrees paid off in full to boost staffing acrossThousands of nurses and midwives will be recruited and trained for free as part of a $270 million initiative announced by the Victorian government on Sunday.

“We will pay their entire HECS debt,” Premier Daniel Andrews told reporters at the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation office in Melbourne.Credit:Scholarships of $10,000 on average will also be handed to thousands of postgraduate nurses to complete studies in specialist areas, including intensive care, emergency, paediatrics and cancer care.

“Our hospital system is under very, very significant pressure, and that is due to a combination of factors,” he said.

This will only make the nursing Shortage worse. No one will want to become a nurse after this subsidy ends therefore it will never end. Also what about all the nurses who just finish paying for the degree they might be upset and wanting compensation, Or just leave the industry

Thats all well and good for the future. The health services need help now. Find ways to entice nurses & doctors back to the profession now.
