Prime Minister Anthony Albanese says he is “not worried” about Australia’s national security interests “at all” regarding the Torres Strait.

On Mer Island, some community members have been looking to China for new infrastructure investment, according to SBS’s Chief Political Correspondent Anna Henderson.

Mr Albanese said his government will ensure national security interests are delivered in the Torres Strait. “They have a great history of playing a role in our defence of our nation and they’ve done that in the past and I’m sure they will continue to act in our national interest,” he said during a National Press Club address.
