OPINION: 'Federal student loan forgiveness can get done. It just takes compromise to do it. The same can (and should) be said for building a wall. The only question is, what are you willing to give to get?' writes columnist Eric Foster.

Donald Trump, left, and Joe Biden in file photos from the 2020 campaign. Biden won that race, and this year sought to deliver on a campaign promise to relieve student loan debt, but a federal judge has ruled he doesn't have the power to do that.

Similarly, after his 2016 election, Trump tried to deliver on a campaign promise to build a Mexican wall, but the courts found an overreach of excutive power there, too. Both cases illustrate the importance of judicial brakes on what could otherwise be unrestrained executive power, writes Eric Foster in his column today.

It's not right it's a personal loan absolutely should not be forgiven you cannot continue to buy ignorant people's votes with false promises there is no reason to forgive student loans

'The wall! THE WALL!' 😱 F**k the wall. 😌

Pay your own loans. I put myself through school with zero help and forgiveness. Let’s get some guns along that border!!

Typical liberal democrat compromise: just spend $400 billion on our giant giveaway now and we'll promise to fund your $15 billion border wall later.

Why does compromise have to come down to accepting something awful so we can do something good. How about we just do good things; build the wall and have people pay their own debts.

The terms of student loans are clear. Stop with the bandaids. If it needs to be fixed, FIX THE ROOT CAUSE. Make college affordable. Wiping out $10k tomorrow, doesn't fix next week.Nothing is 'free' so why should people that already paid their loans off, or never got any, suffer?

They took out those student loans fully aware of what they were getting into. They went to college, they say they're smart...let them figure it out. Or...change the law and allow them to be cleared via a bankruptcy.
