David Eby was sworn in as B.C.’s 37th premier at the Musqueam Community Centre in Vancouver on Friday, announcing two cost-of-living credits just minutes into his new role.
The $100 credit for B.C. Hydro customers is estimated to be the equivalent of one month of electricity charges for most single-family homeowners. The new premier also promised swift action on fixing the housing crisis, strengthening health care and acting on climate change. Eby said the province will build on its commitments to both build a strong and secure economy and fight climate change. “I’m so excited to get started with you and with all of my colleagues delivering on these and so many other issues for British Columbians, building on the strong foundation our government has laid,” he said.
In his remarks, Horgan thanked the Musqueam people as well as former NDP leader Carole James, who led the transition team.
