This week in the Chanticleer podcast columnists Tony Boyd and James Thomson ask how much higher interest rates will go and explain what Gina Rinehart and Andrew Forrest are fighting over. Listen today:

Here are some highlights from the conversation:I don’t think the board of the ASX really understands what situation they’re in or where they’re going to go next. What surprised me – and we’ve done a lot of these inquiries with the banking royal commission and inquiries into the casinos – was there was a lack of accountability. They sort of said, ‘sorry’, but they didn’t really know what they were saying sorry for.: Do you think the RBA has to go here where we’ve gone from? We’ve gone from 0.

There’ll be a really critical CPI figure on the 25th of January when everyone’s on holidays, and that one will probably include a lot of these higher energy prices.: Andrew Forrest is now the biggest owner, operator of renewables in the country. That puts Forrest really at the centre of this big energy transition. We’re not going to be able to do it without him and his assets. I think that’s fascinating. And it speaks to the role of private capital.
