‘They ran up the credit card, but will pay the minimum monthly amount so it doesn’t really matter.’ Inflation, rate hikes and COVID-19 benefits, plus other letters to the editor for Dec. 9

: As the parent of two children living with multiple mental-health disorders and chair of Kerry’s Place autism services, I am deeply aware of the challenges of accessing appropriate services and health care professionals in a timely manner.

There should be a plan, co-ordinated with all governments, to build or convert housing and fund Housing First programs. This should include conversions of unused office space and expedited planning approvals by municipalities. : I applaud The Globe and Mail for an excellent overview of the long-running deficiencies in Canada’s support for individuals dealing with mental-health challenges, and the all-too-common failure to provide the simple necessities of life.

While progress has been made, we are well behind our peers in properly supporting people. Perhaps this looming decision on medical assistance in dying will finally force governments to provide proper supports.What constitutes providing “all mental-health treatments and therapies”?
