Before the city sued property owner Apex Waukegan and its management company, Integra Affordable Management, in August there were complaints about nonworking elevators, mold, leaks, human waste, gunfire nearby and more.
“They definitely need to sell the building to a new owner who will fix up the building the way it’s supposed to be. Everyone is glad it is going to be sold,” Wright said. “They’re picking up stuff,” she added, referring to maintenance efforts. Though Gandurski said Apex has spent more than $120,000 so far toward elevator repair and the effort will continue until it is complete, Wright said Thursday both elevators were not operating for the past two days. It makes it harder for her to get to her eighth-floor apartment.
Waukegan Mayor Ann Taylor said at the Monday meeting taking action to force repairs and improvement to Lakeside Tower was an important issue for the city because it impacts residents’ living conditions.
