Emily Stephenson, the Town of Antigonish’s active living co-ordinator, is excited to begin another winter season of the equipment loan program. The initiative is a joint program between the town and county and encourages residents to borrow outdoor equipment for free. CONTRIBUTEDThe town and county of Antigonish are continuing their partnership to help people get active.
The initiative loans outdoor equipment, year-round, to residents for free for a set amount of time. Winter items are obviously the focus now. Stephenson said it’s easy to view and book equipment. Go to www.townofantigonish.ca, click the services tab, then park and recreation and equipment rental. For people who do not have access to the internet, phone 902-318-4048. A lot of people like to try out a piece of equipment and get a feel for it” before possibly getting their own, said MacNeil, the county’s active living co-ordinator.“We loan our separate equipment out, however, we have similar equipment so we are always in touch with each other.
“The program grows every year. We monitor community requests … and we try to add to what we have or get something new,” said MacNeil.
