The more the commission uncovers, the more you reach the conclusion that this is the worst dog act an Australian government can perpetrate on its own people. | OPINION by Malcolm Knox

If the robo-debt royal commission were an exercise in political grandstanding, it would have no point. Tarnish? Too late. Only in the bubble of their own imagining could the social services ministers at the time of the scandal, Morrison and Christian Porter, have any political reputation left to protect.

Ignoring a reality that Blind Freddy could see – that the working poor earn their income in patches – the robo-debt algorithm sprung them for overpayments by assuming they spread their money prudently over an entire year.

Jarrad Madgwick was also a human. An “Automated Compliance” process cut off his Newstart allowance until he repaid a fictitious debt of $2000. He took his own life just before he was due for a job interview with the army. If only Rhys and Jarrad and more than 2000 other people who died while being chased by robo-debt demands were themselves robo-recipients, the system would have worked perfectly.

The weasel words and the elaborate confusions Commissioner Holmes has had to listen to could be any large corporation, private or public. It is the world we live in, anonymously and autonomously “constructed” around us, and not about to vanish just because there has been a change of government. The more the commission uncovers, the more you reach the conclusion that this is the worst dog act an Australian government can perpetrate on its own people.

The debacle that was the governments response, especially the Victorian governments response to covid is way worse than Robodebt! We need a Royal Commission into that asap!

No, that will be when you work out what they're allowing to happen to children and teens with mental health problems using puberty blockers and surgery. And what's happening to women's rights. There's a male convicted sex offender at Dame Phyllis right now.

The worst dog act perpetrated on us was by Nine & our entire MSM who continue to work for the LNP's reelection by not holding them accountable for anything & even helping to cover up their crimes & fuck ups, inc the cover up of rape in parliament house! That is NOT journalism.

Why now ? Why not several years ago?

Good piece. This RC reveals what overpaid scum our senior public servants are. Grossly overpaid for the spineless robots they are. I say cap public service salaries at $100,000. What, I hear you say, how will it attract 'talent?' Well look at the 'talent '$800,00 P.A .buys us now

TheyreGunnaPod This is propaganda to create division, to foment hatred of the middle class. It's not the middle class using tax loopholes to evade taxes. it's not the middle class funneling their money into tax free havens.

Then why didn’t we see any of you lot report on it before people took their own lives?

And we have Morrison to thank for it

So NOW the has tripped over it’s moral compass on it’s way to lauding LNP policies …how many lives too late ? Robodebt auspoI ScottMorrisonMP KNEW he was advised it was NOT legal yet it was implemented HOW MANY lives ruined ? How many suicides ? culpable Criminal

Just curious. How many of the MSM railed against it when it was first implemented? I'm guessing none as they're all just 'bludgers living off our hard earned taxes '.

Robodebt was always an unthinkable attack, but not everyone was in a bubble about this. People could see that the government's policy wouldn't survive a proper court challenge. What baffles me is how a government could get away with illegal behaviour like this for so long.
