The Oilers then placed Demers on waivers for the purpose of being loaned to the Bakersfield Condors. He played 24 games in the AHL this year for Bakersfield, scoring nine assists and a -4 rating.
Originally a seventh-round pick of the San Jose Sharks in the 2008 NHL Draft, Demers made his NHL debut in the 2009-10 season for the Sharks. He immediately solidified his role as a solid all-around NHL defenceman and remained in that role for the next decade.In November 2014, Demers was traded from San Jose to the Dallas Stars along with a third-round pick for Brendan Dillon. He ended up playing two seasons in Dallas before signing with the Florida Panthers.
Prior to the 2022-23 season, Demers signed a Professional Tryout Contract with the Edmonton Oilers, ultimately being released by the team. He then signed an AHL contract with Bakersfield.
