In an interview with AP, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen says she expects Congress ultimately will vote to raise America's debt limit. But she says demands by House Republicans for spending cuts in return for backing an increase is “very irresponsible.”

The Biden administration is trying to signal its support for improving the economies of African countries, many of which have young populations that will eventually make those nations the drivers of growth in decades to come.

The economist and former Federal Reserve chair has emphasized her desire to reduce racial and income inequality, an element of the systemic racism tied to slavery and its aftermath of segregation. For Democrats, the issue of how to bridge that divide is not just a matter social justice but political pragmatism, given that Black voters are a key constituency for winning elections.— payments and other programs intended for the descendants of slaves — to address the inequality.

Cut the spending.

Spending like there's no tomorrow is 'very irresponsible'.

Spending cuts. It's about time! Should be spending CUT! IRRESPONSIBLE SPENDING of money we don't have. Actually stupid for a very long time by our 'our' government & it matters not what party is in control. ( no control )

Isn’t it more irresponsible to keep spending and spending when you know you can’t possibly pay for it? You really have to live within your means. Getting more and more credit cards when you max out your current ones is not the right way to live.

Not irresponsible AT ALL! This spending is NOT SUSTAINABLE!

Why do we play this scaremongering game on a regular basis. No one really cares about Debt growing to $31Trillion. By the time Biden leaves in 2024, debt will cross $33Tr. With interest rates up, financing will hurt.

Trumper Quid pro quo from the Thuglicans

It’s irresponsible to cut spending? who let that denture model out into public?

MAGA frauds

MAGA frauds

Can I get my debt limit raised?

How does she still have a job …wait isn’t she a Biden hire

The GOP only raises this issue when a Democrat sits in the White House. Same BS game, different day.

Oh shocking as democrats would never make demands in negotiations 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

These replies are full of people who have little idea of what the debt limit is. It isn't new spending! It's paying for what's already been approved and allocated!

What’s so responsible about slow-starting WW3?

Why do the rest of us have to live within our means? Ridiculous!

Spending less money is irresponsible, that’s a hot take.

Debt limit is for spending already approved. A budget already approved by congress by both houses and both parties. Maga right wing in house wants to use wrecking economy as blackmail to get their way without majority support.

Sounds like the government needs to cut back on its avocado toast.

It’s very irresponsible to be a treasury secretary whose team is pre busting the ceiling in the budgetary process

She is absolutely right and I’m grateful she is speaking out about it now.

So the head of our treasury states that living within our means is irresponsible?

We’re living a world where black is white and yellow is green. Adam smith is rolling over in his grave rn

Agreed with Sec. Yellen, raising the debt limit without harmful spending cuts is crucial for our economy and people's well-being. DebtLimit Congress

Janet Yellen calling someone else irresponsible, that’s rich. Bernanke’s cheerleader who helped turbo charge the QE death spiral calling people irresponsible. Crazy times.

System is absolutely broke… eventually the US will either default on its debt or the US govt will print it into even more worthless paper.

wrong. more spending is irresponsible.

What is irresponsible about fiscal prudence and avoiding run amok spending?
