Corporate America’s warnings of a financial catastrophe if Congress fails to raise the debt ceiling are falling on deaf ears among key congressional Republicans who find themselves increasingly at odds with the party's longtime allies.

are falling on deaf ears among key congressional Republicans who find themselves increasingly at odds with the party's longtime allies.the alarm bells sounded by business groups, corporate CEOs and Wall Street investors over the economic consequences of missing an early June deadline for action on Capitol Hill. Instead, many GOP lawmakers vow to seek spending cuts in exchange for passing legislation that would let the U.S. government keep paying its bills.

“The importance and sway that many big business groups had at one point is no longer important to the folks on the far right that we saw in the speakership fight,” said a political consultant who asked not to be named because of their work with corporate clients involved in the debt ceiling debate.

Tensions increased during the 2022 election cycle after a number of major corporations and trade groups decided to withhold donations to the Republicans who voted against certifying the 2020 presidential election results, shifting money instead to moderate Democrats, said a Republican lobbyist who does work for a variety of corporate clients.

Their not deaf, just nuts

Creditors make money off borrowed money, that would be the banking institutions. Raising the debt ceiling make them richer and shorten how much Government can do with our tax dollars since more of it must go towards paying interest instead of people in government or for programs

GOP Doesn't Know How To Govern

This is what happens when Dem President & Congress spend $trillions for votes.

Big business lost the increasingly populist GOP not because of systemic corruption - that's a given no matter the party. Deeper and more subtle are the culture and disinformation wars. There may very well be grave consequences, but what to believe and for whom?

Republicans are calling your bluff. You can’t spend & hurl us into the largest national debt in history, then say, Oh, you have to write the check to pay this monstrosity and we’re not going to make spending cuts.

32 trillion dollars of national debt, globalist and corporations are stealing taxpayer money blind! Joe Biden has spent more money in the last 2 years than any other country in world history. When does the spending end?

Republicans dont get it. They think 'raising the debt ceiling' means time to 'raise the roof'!!! Ha!

Total b******* and lies. The only reason to increase the debt ceiling is for new spending. These scumbags are stealing wealth from future generations with their spending. Shut the government down for a year for all I care. Whatever it takes to end this

Republicans would love to have the excuse to destroy us.

Maybe if the corporations shouldn’t be such welfare queens and pull themselves up by their bootstraps

Republicans hold firm in demanding debt-ceiling deal with BidenThe president has agreed to meet with House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, even as Biden maintains the U.S. should not haggle over preventing a default. Defaulting is not allowed under the Constitution by both Art 1, Sec 8 and the 14th Amendment. Repeal the Trump tax cuts. Total waste of money, accomplished nothing except for stock repurchases

Why the Republicans’ debt ceiling ransom note is blank (for now)Republicans are threatening a debt ceiling crisis. Is their list of demands outlandish? No one knows. The GOP’s ransom note is completely blank. (via MaddowBlog) Completely blank? This also describes the level of their understanding of America. Democrats can't understand that the PEOPLE have spoken and want responsible people in charge when spending 'their' money! Departing democrats signed a huge spending bill just prior to leaving. Just cancel it.

Warren Slams GOP for Creating 'Economic Chaos' as Debt Ceiling Fight LoomsSen. Elizabeth Warren on Monday took aim at the Republican Party for creating what she called a 'manufactured crisis' as a potential fight over the debt ceiling looms, slamming the GOP's threats to public spending as the party works to make it even easier for the wealthy to avoid paying taxes—an eff the minimum payment on the debt interest alone is more than the US GDP. The US is going to end up in the pockets of Vulture Capitalists, like BlackRock, Chinese and Saudis. We might even find out whose pocket that $ Trillion sent to Ukraine went, my guess Israel. Game Over
