Joe Biden is right that one-fourth of U.S. debt accumulated under Donald Trump. However, much of the current federal debt stems from mandatory payments, such as those for Social Security and Medicare.

ssor, Donald Trump, with a significant share of the blame for the nation’s $31.4 trillion federal debt.

We found that Biden is right on the numbers, but placing the full blame on Trump, as he seemed to do in his remark,is misguided., when Trump was inaugurated in January 2017, the gross federal debt stood at $19.9 trillion. When Biden took office, it was $27.8 trillion. So, the $7.9 trillion added on Trump’s watch was about 25% the amount of today’s total debt.

Generations of politicians in both parties approved and modified these programs long before Trump took office.

Crazy to think that so many Americans don’t see social security as a Ponzi scheme. Thanks for raiding the trust democrats!

🤔I am puzzled by one thing: If SS is paid for by people who have paid into the system, then why is it considered a liability that the government has to borrow for? I understand about Medicare, it cost way more than people ever thought it would, but I do not understand about SS.

Wait a second... Why don't we have the money in the coffers to pay those mandatory payments?

A large portion of that also has to do with COVID spending.

dodges the fact the GOP $TRILLION dollar tax cut slashed tax revs which were replaced by DEBT There's direct link from slashed tax revenue & to more debt Stop the 'what aboutism': the facts are clear: less tax rev = more debt; GOP caused less tax revenue = more debt

The giant baby boom bubble that has stressed Social Security finances has started to recede.
