In January of 2018, the board approved an agreement to buy the land from Grainger for approximately $8 million. Critics charge the village acted hastily in a bungled attempt to unsuccessfully relocate Northbrook’s Metra station south to the former Grainger site. Elementary school districts are aware of the projected enrollment of 42 students from both developer units, despite objectors’ fears of overcrowding at elementary schools and at Glenbrook North High School.
