Default is an acceptable path. Declare bankruptcy, take a few years to repair credit and move on with life. Or pay the agreed upon debt and don't expect others (some of whom were smart enough not to attend college even if they were encouraged to do so) to come to the rescue.

Why not just change the Bankruptcy Law to include student loan debt? They get their debt forgiven but have a BK on their credit report. If its REALLY impossible to pay, then file BK, otherwise maybe it isn't 'impossible' to pay that debt.
