The Oireachtas Finance Committee is to request senior management from AIB to appear before it to answer questions about the bank's policy on debt write-downs

The committee met this afternoon to discuss the matter and TDs and Senators are keen to have the issue addressed quickly.

The Finance Committee wants to know how many debts were written down by more than 90% during the last decade. The Finance Committee has a full schedule for the next three weeks but some members want to organise an extra meeting next week to deal with matter. "It is just really difficult for so many people to see what appears to be two cohorts of individuals being treated differently," he said.

AIB urged to explain 99 per cent debt write-down for DJ CareyMinisters and Opposition call on majority State-owned bank to be questioned on ‘jaw-dropping settlement’ “High Court judgment for the €9.5 million on May 9th, 2011, most of which arose from a €7.85 million loan to Mr Carey relating to properties in Mount Juliet in Co Kilkenny and the K Club in Co Kildare.” 99% write down and still went scrounging for money off every contact in his phone. Allegedly. Carey is merely exploiting the rules based (not law based) control mechanism that AIB operates (on a sliding scale of veracity). It's not Carey or AIB, but the financial system that allows this governance which has brought us to a situation where no graduate can afford a home.
