Government issues a stark warning over energy credit text message scam doing the rounds

The Government has issued a warning to the public as criminals try and target vulnerable people looking to claim an energy credit.

The scam messages try to trick unsuspecting members of the public into clicking a link that ends in gov.ie but as the Government is no longer offering new energy credit assistance, the public have been warned not to click the link or enter any information. The Government will never phone, text, email or video call members of the public asking for personal information such as bank details.

This new method is known as quishing which combines the q from QR and the more traditional phishing that's used in email scams.
