“In Austria it is exactly the opposite. Formula 1 is booming more than ever before. The Red Bull team is seen as the Austrian national team and the whole country is cheering on that.”
“That’s why I even hope that Mercedes will be strong again so that the Germans will identify with them,” he said.Given that since the turn of the millennium, 10 drivers titles have been won by Germany and a German constructor won eight titles in a row, it seems odd that interest in the sport is on the wane.
Sebastian Vettel was then able to pick up the mantle, winning world titles from 2010 to 2013, but his move away from a top team and his recent retirement has only added to the sense of disillusionment.
This is kind of silly. The only team on the grid that has a ‘national team’ vibe to it is Ferrari.
Dude! Be careful what you wish for 😳
Nobody associates Mercedes with Germany anymore, that’s gone since Lewis joined. It’s seen as a fully British Team by the British F1 Press, especially now there is 2 British Drivers.
Rekindle? They owned F1 for most of the last decade.
It‘s a fully British team without any German influence besides the brand. The only thing, which is important to Germans at Mercedes is Mick.
tbh, there's almost no support, as Mercedes practically just pays the bill from the team in the UK. A german driver is the only thing that would change that
I am German and Mercedes is not a German Team for me all. Nothing in the car and the Team is German except for the name. Germans have to put their hope into audi, who will build the engines in Germany and the car in switzerland, which has a lot of German speakers.
