QIC has hired Ares Management’s head of infrastructure debt for Asia as its private debt boss, as Andrew Jones, pivots from dealmaking to advisory.New recruit Simon La Greca would head the two-year-old unit that lends to infrastructure asset owners, and also includes the multi-sector team run by Phil Miall and invests in corporate debt.Just like Jones, La Greca is an AMP Capital infrastructure old-timer.

He worked in AMP’s Asian infrastructure debt business for 18 years, ending as its head, before jumping ship to Ares last year. At Ares, he built out the Asian investment team, led investments in mezzanine assets and oversaw fund-raising.“Simon is a highly respected investor with global experience and strong industry relationships. I look forward to him joining the leadership team later this year,” QIC’s chief executive Kylie Rampa said.

The hires come as Jones switches to deputy chair of QIC’s private debt investment committee, alongside being a strategic adviser for the firm. He has had a 30-year-long career in debt capital markets and set up the unit for QIC. The infrastructure side primarily plays in overseas deals and closed four transactions in 2022 across US and Europe renewables, logistics and alternative fuels projects. The
