The SNP-Green government document, published this week, insisted Scotland had played “a particular role in pushing for” the historic $300million Loss and Damage Fund

An army of 22 Scots civil servants helped deliver a key fund at COP27 to aid poorer countries hit hardest by climate change, the Scottish Government has claimed.

Long called for by campaigners, the cash pot will see richer countries which have chiefly caused the climate crisis compensate developing nations especially vulnerable to extreme climate-caused weather like flooding, droughts and storms. In a new report on “outcomes, achievements and costs” from COP27, the Holyrood government said its delegation “undertook a significant programme of engagement with national and regional governments, climate experts and campaigners”.

“As one of the first movers, this action helped catalyse a total of over $300million in international pledges on loss and damage, which demonstrates the progress made in just one year starting with Scotland’s funding.”
