In Bexar County, 177,107 student debt relief applications were submitted last year between Oct. 14 and Nov. 11, right before a Texas federal judge blocked Biden’s plan for ruling it unlawful. The ZIP code with the highest rate of applications submitted per 1,000 residents was 78152 located in East Bexar County with 588 applications submitted. With a population of 2,380, that means about 25% of everyone living in the zip code applied for relief.
Central San Antonio ZIP code 78215 and Southeast Bexar County ZIP code 78252 also had the highest rates with 583 and 2,220 applications submitted, respectively.In Texas,Texans have been approved for relief under the program despite it remaining in legal limbo. The U.S. Supreme Court is set to decide the fate of Biden’s plan this summer, which was slated to forgive up to $20,000 in federal student loan debt for Americans making under $125,000.
I paid my student loans and I very much hope that the Supreme Court rules in favor of the Biden administration. When government actually backs predatory lending, they have an obligation to correct the wrong. It will be a huge benefit to local economies.
