Independent MP Dai Le says it “just doesn’t make sense” for the government to spend $368 billion on eight submarines that are going to be ready in 27 years’ time when there is a cost of living crisis in Australia right now.

‘Dosen’t make sense’ for govt to spend $368 billion on subs amid cost of living crisis

“I asked for the government to extend the fuel tax levy – which was about $3 billion – the Treasurer said to me they couldn’t accommodate it in the budget because it was too much,” she told Sky News Australia. Ms Le said, however, “they were prepared to spend” $368 billion on submarines that won’t be ready for another 27 years.

“At what cost to the Australian communities, the Australian working families here that are struggling at the moment with the rise in interest rates, the cost of living,” she said.

Oh so now skynews cares about the 'crisis'. 9 years of no decent wage rises but 0 f*** given by skynews cause its LNP lords said it was fine 🤦🤦

Dora44299064201 Makes less sense to spend $1 on Chinese solar panels and wind turbines

That doesn’t even equate to half the amount money that will be spent on the indigenous population in the same time line with current systems in place we need a royal commission now

Teams of analysts that spend entire careers dedicated to predicting regional strategy, military capability and non political policy say it’s essential, a few politicians say it’s not.

She had better Re-read the announcement as there will be subs supplied by early 2030’s. I expect MP’s to be intelligent and listen to what is said. I expect Sky to get it wrong.

It does make sense …. What doesn’t make sense is spending money on woke shit like windmills & cutting coal mining & funding minorities with mental disorders

Shes right

Yeah, it’s laughable.

Nuclear submarines are a good idea for Australia because they offer unmatched stealth, endurance, speed, and carrying capacity, providing enhanced security and strategic flexibility in the Indo-Pacific region. nuclearsubmarines Australia auspol

AlboMP has delivered a raft of cost of living relief measures. And continues to do so.

So the question is do you want your kids speaking Chinese?

Well they arent spending the $368b now either.

I just want $1M. Don't worry about subs. Let's Australian's live a stress free life. Seems we are all buggered.

And how will the Chinese deal with the cost of living crisis when they're running the joint?

Hypersonic weapons make naval warfare obsolete…we need hypersonic not subs

$368 bill = $12.2 billion spent each year, for 30 years. In other words, an increase in GDP committed to defence. Which given the threat is 100% justified. Current 22-23 defence budget = $48.6 bill AUD So it just rose to ~$60.8 billion AUD/yr (long-term). There will be more.

Using the same thinking, it is useless buying a home now that wont be built for a few years or paid off for over 30 years and cost a fortune in upkeep, maintenance and costs when your living in a tent.

What will happen to the cost of living if there is a war because China gets an idea it can win ?

Defense of out nation is a non negotiable. Much smarter people then us know what China is up to. Last 5 years have proven China to be a bad actor on the world stage, prepare.

I just simply say that with all due respect for Ms Dai, this issue is out of her depth. She even suggested relationship ie diplomacy with red China. What did Mao say? Diplomacy is at the barrels of the guns

It makes perfect sense, you just don't understand almost anything about it. Don't fret, there's classified report, with a public version of it still to come, that will explain the details of the spending and its schedules, for those who are rather slow and too blind to grasp it.

Apples and oranges. The 368 billion dollars isn't being spent 'right now.'

LOL but she was OK with Five Jobs plan to do the same? I agree it is a waste of money but she would have also complained if Labor threw Morrison's wedge in the bin

If China decides to go to war the cost of living problem we have now will look insignificant.

What ? What ? What ? Murdoch reflecting popularè opinion - well I never ...... ;-)

Dai Le needs to do some research Morrison & Dutton stitched Australia in good & proper

They are not being paid for right now . Well bloody hope not

Maybe not for the little potatoes but it's a big deal for the people who will make great money. Who will win? Obviously not Australia!

I am 77 and glad I'll be long gone to witness the destruction of the Australian economy and a proud, prosperous people!

Dai Le is right So are a lot of other people out in the world that know that Canberra is so full of shit the politicians don’t even try to hide that they are screwing the people to protect billionaires and corporations

Do we get today's model or the new improved 30 years from now? AI will be big and systems won't even resemble today's.

This government has zero commonsense. This is redickules Australia is all ready way behind the rest of the world. When it comes to our military capabilities time is critical for Australia to get is self battle, ready to defend Australia from any aggression that comes it's way

It makes sense when their goal is to fleece the Australian people as much as possible and spending as much $ as possible (they'll get their own hands on a bunch, likewise their friends) before the party ends.

The spending is needed on defence, but she is right, the optics aren’t great

Great waste money

Does she understand we’re not spending $368b right now? The costs are spread over the lifetime of the deal

Dai Lee doesn't need to worry about cost of living because when China takes over Aust. it will become a communist state where everything is 'free' ?

Is Independent MP Dai Le vaccinated?

Disagree- respectfully.

Why conflate 2 issues!

‘Shouldn’t be surprised’: Keating has ‘been on the Chinese payroll’Paul Keating “ran the Chinese Community Party line” in his critical speech of the AUKUS deal which “we shouldn’t be surprised at” as he’s “been on the Chinese payroll,” says Sky News host Caleb Bond. His comments come after the former prime minister slammed the AUKUS nuclear submarines program as the “worst deal in all history” at the National Press Club conference on Wednesday. “Paul Keating is a bloke who was on the board of the China Development bank – which is you know is basically a quasi-arm of the CCP – for 13 years,” Mr Bond said. “He served as its chairman for ten years. In 2021 he said that if China were to go to war with Taiwan, Australia should do nothing about it because you know, Taiwan is of very little interest to us basically. “I mean this is a bloke who toes the China line every day of the week and lo and behold, he’s been on the Chinese payroll.” Why are you pushing for war with China? Keating a grub of the highest kind. Has been happy to sell out his country to the Chinese Communist Party.
