Harry and Meghan struck deal with Buckingham Palace to not pay rent for Frogmore Cottage after £2.4m refurb repayment

An accountant who analysed the accounts for the paper said: "This is an accountant's way of balancing the books. They will look at this deal and say 'Yes, but there's still value being had from the rental contract'. So there needs to be value seen in the accounts.

"By allowing the Sussexes to remain in Frogmore Cottage without any additional payments, the Crown gave away value and, as such, should recognise that. They use some of the £2.4 million for that. "That is why they will have split the payments, to show value coming back into the estate according to the rental agreement that the Sussexes will have signed."A Palace spokesperson said: "The Duke and Duchess of Sussex made a contribution of £2.4 million to the Sovereign Grant which covered the refurbishment of Frogmore Cottage.

"As with any such agreement between landlord and tenant, further details regarding the Sussexes' tenancy arrangements would be a private matter."Norman Baker, a former Cabinet Minister and Privy Counsellor, said: "It is outrageous that Harry and Meghan should be able to live in a huge house on these terms while regular people struggle to put food on the table."

Mr Baker has since demanded to know how many Royal Family properties are rented out below the market rate.Harry and Meghan stepped down from royal duties in 2020 and are bringing up their children in the US.

Pro scammers all of them

So the RF lied in their public accounts then? Is that the story?

So why all the tabloid stories about them leasing and paying rent upfront?

Conveniently timed leak from Buckingham Palace as usual. You wanna make this a story but brushed over Willy not paying nearly half a billion dollars in inheritance tax due to a law from nearly 1000 years ago. Totally unbiased journalism of course…

Is it a deal to not pay rent to your billionaire family on property you’ve been kicked out of you pay on and remodeled. Run them their money 2.4M bricks.

And ....?

So what? Name the other royals paying rent for their properties

How very backwards. Grandchildren charged rent lmaoooo

The obsession about HarryandMeghan and their small Frogmore Cottage that they paid £2.4 million for renovations after being hounded by the ToxicBritishMedia & RacistRoyalFamily when 100 of millions are being spent for Charles party and renovations at Buckingham palace is crazy

HarryandMeghan paid over £2m toward FC. On the other hand, Charles the narcissist is spending £100m of taxpayers money to televise himself and his wife sitting on gold thrones. But we're supposed to be mad at PrinceHarry GoodKingHarry and PrincessMeghan EmpressMeghan

Are there public money involved ? Don't think so. As much as I detest Harry and Meghan this is nothingburger you LBC are trying to stir.

Boo-hiss booooooo the destractions. Or. People who pay 2.4 million for a refurbished generally live/stay in refurbished house. How much have the other royals paid, not tax payers but royals actually paid for their houses/rent? Guessing as much as Charles paid in inheritance tax.

What does that mean?are they evicted or not? I think you are doing a clean up excercise for the palace after they have realised that it was not a good PR for them.

Why is this news?

It was a gift to them from the Queen. Why would you pay rent for a gift?

And this is news because…?

They are already living rent free in Piers Morgan's head

Like I'd do with my landlord if I'd just spent money on their house.
